BrillianTab tablet PC Review

brilliantabI’ve had the BrillianTab for a few days now and have had a good chance to play around with this budget price tablet PC. First thing to say is that this is no iPad but there again it does not come with a £500 price tag.

BrillianTab took a week to arrive from China.

The BrillianTab took about a week to arrive from China and with all the VAT and charges the total price came to just over £150 so this is a very affordable android tablet PC.  Of course it does not matter how cheap it is, if it doesn’t do the job then it’s just an expensive bit of useless hardware.

The BrilliantTab though is not useless but a bit of kit that can meet the needs of many. It’s perfectly adequate for most user demands. I used it without a problem for general web surfing, email and social media, a bit of game playing and as a very effective e-book reader.

BrillianTab tablet has responsive 7 inch screen.

The screen at 7 inches is noticeably smaller than the iPad but that’s to be expected as the screen is the most expensive part of a tablet PC. The screen is very responsive with multi-touch ability to make zooming in and out etc pretty straight-forward. The images are rendered very well with good sharp colour rendition. The tablet PC delivers a screen resolution of 800 by 480 so gives you a good view of most web sites without too much sideways scrolling.

Videos play really well on the tablet as it has plenty of processor power and RAM. Plugged into a TV screen lets you use the BrillianTab as a media player and the youtube videos and on-demand TV programmes rendered very well. With a downloaded movie saved to a USB stick there was a smooth playback on the TV.

Cheap android tablet PC with easy access to Marketplace.

The access to the Google Marketplace was trouble free and apps were downloaded without any problems. The BrillianTab runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread with a a reliable recent version of android and can use pretty much all the apps currently available – there may be a few apps now restricted to Android 3 Honeycomb – but I did not come across any while I was experimenting with the tablet.

The build of the tablet is pretty good, it feels a bit lightweight but still sturdy enough for me to be confident is using it without having to treat it with to much care and attention. The connections feels quite good though there was a little bit of concern over the connection sharpness of the headphone socket. The sound is great it’s just that there was no really confident snap into place as the headphones went in so we shall see how long it lasts before needing to be replaced.

BrillianTab picks up wifi signals hassle-free.

The manufacturers claim that the battery will last 4 hours in operation but I only managed just over 3 hours. but I’ve never come across a manufacturers claim for battery life as being as long as they claim so I’m not too over concerned about this issue. It could be that the battery life was so short because I kept the wifi on all the time and wifi is well known for using up battery power.

Connection to the wifi as stress-free. The android tablet soon picked up the signal and once logged in it held the signal securely. It had a reasonable range too with it holding the signal for the same sort of distance than my notebook.

Useful low cost tablet PC.

Overall I think that this is going to be a really useful and portable tablet pc for my needs. The smaller size of the tablet at 7 inch screen is ideal for taking it out on my day to day travels. It’s much easier to slip a 7 inch screen into your bag (or large pocket) than an iPad so I’m happy to take it down the coffee shop for my morning break and do a bit of reading or browsing.

The new Amazon tablet has something to beat for the budget price mass market.

Rich snippet data:

BrillianTab tablet PC

A low cost but very powerful tablet pc that’s very portable.

The BrilliantTab tablet PC saves money by having a smaller screen but it delivers quite a punch for it’s low price. It runs on a 1.2GHz chip which gives it more than enough power for most users. Ideal for web browsing, watching movies, social meda, most games and a very good and clear to read e-book reader. It’s a handy if not cutting edge bit of affordable computer hardware.
